Autumn Book Tag

I saw this tag in The Worn Bookmark and decided that I haven’t done one in a long time! 😀 And plus this one seems super-short and I’m super-lazy, so you can do the math 😛

Legend says…

They say you are worthless, you never have and never will deserve my love, and sometimes at night, when the lights are long gone, I wonder if they are right. But in the morning , when I see you again, I don’t remember a single reason for not loving you. They say you are Narcissus, obsessed with your own self, selfish and oblivious to love coming from any other direction. They say I’m Echo, forever pining away for her “perfect” Narcissus, with no real life of her own. They say this story ends with me wasting away without your love and you drowning in your own vices. And I believe them. I know its true. But maybe I want to be Echo, maybe I want you to be Narcissus, just so that history carries our names together, binding them to each other in an inseparable bond. Maybe all I want is to be remembered, but only with you.

Linger…

***Some characters in this tale might be real but the feelings and events portrayed are PURELY fictional. Okay so maybe ALL the events aren’t fictional, but the feelings DEFINITELY are.***

I walk down the staircase with my friends, wondering where he is. He is supposed to have an extra class after school, so I assume he is in his classroom. But I can’t help but hope to catch a glimpse of him before the four-day holiday we’ll have this weekend. Just then, as I spring down the familiar grey stairs, I see him on the landing walking up, probably going back to his class. He must have gone downstairs to fetch water. As he walks up, neither of us look at each other. His usually arrogant but cheerful face is grave and serious and its obvious that he isn’t making eye-contact on purpose. He passes right by me although there is a lot of space in the wide staircase. My heart beats so loud that I can actually hear it. He is so uncharacteristically silent that it is ridiculous. My friend not-so-subtly clears her throat from behind us. He still keeps his head low, and my eyes are on the ground too, although I can see him from my peripheral vision. And suddenly, just like that, the moment is over. He has reached the above landing and taken the next flight of stairs, while I have proceeded to the one below. He is gone, and I won’t see him for the next four days. But I am left with a realization- although I never meant to, I’ve fallen, and I’ve fallen hard.

I wrote this on Friday evening, and for some reason its kind of freaking me out. :-/

50 Day Challenge of Random Things- Day #6

I know I skipped Day #4 and #5, but there’s reason for that.

  1. For Day #4 the topic was:A picture of you doing something weird but funny. Well, I hardly have pictures of myself. Forget about silly pictures.

2. For Day#5 the topic was: A picture of your friends being silly. I didn’t think posting a silly picture of a friend would be very nice.

3. I’m already running late in this. 😛

So moving on to a more fun topic:

Write a paragraph to somebody – it could be anybody you want, even someone you haven’t met yet.

I thought a lot about this one and decided to write to my first official teacher, Krishna ma’am, who will always remain my favorite teacher forever. ❤

We are talking about the year 2002, and ma’am you obviously don’t even remember me now. But there are so many things that I wasn’t old enough to tell you then, and am not familiar enough to tell you now. Before nursery, I had never been to any other school, and so you were my first teacher ever. I still remember how you taught us a poem about two birds sitting on a wall, I remember how you gave me one of my first books to read (I think it was called “Mitttu: The Parrot”). I even remember that I never used to like having tiffin, and you would walk around the corridors with me till I finished my food. Your smile, your gentle scolding- its all so rare now. Every teacher I have now, well, they are amazing teachers, but they are all so…. impersonal. They come into class, teach, check our papers, give us marks, and leave. The difference between you and them reminds me of one thing only: it sucks to grow up. So 14 years since when you taught me the very basics of life, I wish you all the happiness in your life, all the happiness that you have showered on a thousands little kids like me.

I am so disorganised when I write. X( *facepalm*

SYNOPSIS:

**This story was inspired by true events. If you liked the movie “Sleeping With the Enemy”, then you might like this story too. CONTENT WARNING: Violence, foul language, and adult situations. Not meant for younger readers.**

A ROMANTIC SUSPENSE NOVEL. No one knew a woman lived there or that she even existed. A monster, living in darkness…

At twenty-two, Nicole doesn’t even look human anymore. The beast made sure of that. So she hides. A monster, consigned to a life of fear and solitude. This is all she deserves, she is quite sure of that.
And then one day out of the blue, the autographed baseball caught by Brian Jensen at the latest Marlins game enters her prison and manages to turn her world completely upside down.

Temptation comes in the form of pity at first, and then perhaps something more. Does she dare to believe the things she’s told, that this is not the life she was meant to live? That being a monster is not her forever-fate? And will she be willing to risk everything, to reach out and accept the helping hands around her and share her deepest, darkest secrets? She knows only too well that hands can hurt. Finding out whether they can also heal is a risky proposition, especially when the beast is still out there. Looking for her.

EXCERPT:

“Maybe I’ll get lucky tonight and he’ll cheat on me and sleep somewhere else. Nicole says that to herself as a joke. He definitely cheats on her, but he never sleeps anywhere else, probably because he worries she’ll decide to go out again. He should know better. She’s too well-conditioned to dare doing that again. Besides, the locked doors make it kind of difficult.

She glances over at the table by the door that’s lit with the streetlights’ glow coming through the transom window. The framed picture is there, mocking her. She’s tried to get rid of it several times, but the monster won’t let her. It has to stay, he says, to remind her of what she’s done.

The sound of a car coming down the street makes her entire body go tense. She’s gotten very good at detecting the type of vehicle that approaches by the sound of its engine. This one roars loudly, so she knows it’s a truck. She gets up from the couch, her body stiff, and shuffles towards the front window. Twitching the curtains to the side the slightest bit is enough to tell her. Yes. It’s him.

She twists around and looks at the clock behind her. It’s late. Where has the time gone? I must have been dozing off again. Dammit! He’s been to the local bar after work.

Rushing to the kitchen, she gets a beer out of the refrigerator and scrambles to open the drawer where the opener is kept. Her hands tremble as she fits it into position over the bottle and uses it to lever the cap off. As the top flips over, she loses her hold on it, and it falls to the floor in the dark kitchen, rattling around on the tile.

“She puts the bottle down on the counter and nearly cries when some of the beer foams up and comes out the top to spill over the edge.

“Find the cap! Find the cap! Where are you, dammit?” She moans, patting the floor desperately with her hand, nearly weeping with relief when her fingers finally make contact with its jagged metal edges.

The engine goes silent. A moment later the truck’s door shuts with a muffled clunk.

“Shit, shit, shit!” she whispers, grabbing the dishtowel off the hook and hurriedly wiping the bottle and counter down. They cannot be wet, no matter what.

The sound of heavy footsteps on the front porch comes through the door…..

……The monster is home.”
